100% Detonating Cord core load determination
In January 1997, Dynamit Nobel developed a Measuring device, based on the principles of capacitance measurements, that performs a 100% weight check of the detonating cords. This small but effective device is part of the Quality Control routine that Dynamit Nobel utilizes to ensure that the weight of the raw detonating cord does not drop below a preset minimum value. The detonating cord runs through 2 plates of a capacitor. Depending on the mass of explosives inside the raw cord, the capacitance changes. Dynamit Nobel has developed a model whereby the measured capacitance of the raw detonating cord is related to the weight of the mass of explosives in the raw detonating cord.
This measuring device is connected to a computer that converts the raw input signal into a computed weight in grams per meter. This information is temporarily collected on 2 hard disks and then transferred to a CD ROM for storage.
One can print a diagram of the detonating cord if so desired, or use the data for statistical and QA analysis.
If the measuring device encounters a value below the preset minimum weight per meter for a particular cord, a device is actuated instantaneous to destroy the jacket such that this section of unqualified cord is rejected, during spooling onto the shipping spools.
